The present invention relates to marine oil spill recovery by applying a low molecular weight glucose-derived Phase Selective OrganoGelators (PSOGs) directly as solid fine powder without any carrier solvent, can congeal crude oil selectively and efficiently from the crude oil-water mixture. The gelators can congeal many oils including crude oil selectively, forming stable gels from oil- water mixtures and have an essential property for efficient oil-spill recovery. The gelators used in the present invention are very cheaply available and can be made from D-glucose. Also the amount of the gelator required for gelation is very less. Thus the present invention offers high efficiency and cost effective method for marine oil-spill recovery.
