SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DETECTING YELLOW LICENCE PLATE IN INDIAN CONTEXT

The present disclosure relates to a method and system for licence plate detection. In particular, it pertains to an automated detection of licence plate of a particular color such as yellow, using chromaticity binarization. The disclosed method includes extracting a difference image by subtracting two frontal images of a moving vehicle captured at a slight time difference yielding a background free image; binarization of the difference image to get a background free image; cropping a region of interest image by identifying the boundaries of the vehicle; producing a yellow binarized image using the principals of chromaticity; identifying the yellow region boundaries using the connected component analysis and finally selecting the licence plate after inspecting the yellow regions for licence plate suitability by applying the geometric constraint tests andadequate number of level crossings checks within the yellow region.
