The invention relates to a measuring and sampling lance (2 20) for measuring metallurgical characteristic variables and for taking a sample of liquid melt wherein the measuring and sampling lance (2 20) comprises a contact piece (3 30) and an immersion probe (1 10) which can be detachably fastened to the contact piece (3 30) wherein the immersion probe (1 10) can be immersed and has at least one sensor for outputting a sensor signal characteristic of the melt and wherein a housing having an electronic unit (6 60) is fitted to the measuring and sampling lance (2 20) in particular to that side of the measuring and sampling lance (2 20) which is remote from the sensor wherein the sensor is connected to the housing via the contact piece (3 30) by means of an electrical connection with the result that the sensor signal is passed to the electronic unit (6 60) via the electrical connection and wherein the electronic unit (6 60) comprises at least one analogue processing unit for preprocessing the sensor signal in analogue form and wherein the electronic unit (6 60) comprises an acceleration sensor (9) for recording the immersion process. The invention also relates to a method and a depositing apparatus for inserting a measuring and sampling lance.
