Novel method for diagnosis of insulin resistance, comprising measurement of one of several long-chain acylcarnitines (lauroylcarnitine, myristoylcarnitine, stearoylcarnitine, palmitoylcarnitine, oleoylcarnitine, linoleylcarnitine) in the blood, where the insulin resistance is diagnosed if 2 hours after the administration of glucose the concentration of one or several acylcarnitines is not decreased by 15 % compared to that in fasted stage.
