The present invention relates to a device for measuring the voltage gradient to determine coating defects in the cathodically protected subsea pipe.The system is attached to an ROV Remote Operating Vehicle, and it is capable of transporting it along the submarine duct. Said system is applicable for shallower waters (water tie less than 500 meters) and deep water (tie bars greater than 500 meters ) and affords the measurement by a pair of electrodes Ag/AgCl and a voltage meter which is connected to a data storage system wherein the readings taken are recorded for later evaluation. The present invention also contemplates a tool assembly to effectivly and with a high-quality, measure the voltage gradient in an electrolytic medium as part of an integrity inspection of the submarine ducts lining.
