The present invention relates to a new concept for the manufacture of YBCO superconductors, based on the application of high pressure oxidation. The superconductor according to the invention is produced by utilizing faster oxygen diffusion in the direction of the crystal axis c into the volume of the superconductor at high pressure and elevated temperature to optimize the production process. Such a process allows up to 40-fold shortening of the superconductor oxidation time while maintaining the level of the captured magnetic field, thereby reducing production costs.
