The invention discloses a control system and a control method for controlling the maintenance vehicle braking cylinder of a large size road maintainer, including a brake cylinder closed loop control part, a back-up braking control part and an auxiliary braking control part. In the control system and the control method, a closed loop control mode can be adopted for the brake cylinder, thereby greatly improving the control precision of the pressure of the brake cylinder; a backup control mode can be adopted for the brake cylinder, thereby improving the reliability of the railroad engineering maintenance vehicle; and an auxiliary brake mode can be adopted for the brake cylinder, to ensure that in the cases of emergency and distributor valve failure, braking action can be produced in a short ti,e, thus improving the safety of the engineering maintenance vehicle.
