A method for converting energy to provide a direct current (DC) output based, at least in part, on an alternating current, comprising: rectifying (1902) the alternating current to a first direct current by means of a first rectifying circuit; average (1904) the first direct current by means of an average circuit, to provide a second direct current; and rectifying (1906) the alternating current to a third direct current by means of a second rectifying circuit; and providing (1908) the direct current output obtained from the second direct current and the third direct current; wherein one between the first rectifier circuit and the second rectifier circuit, or both, comprise a rectifier topology comprising a combination of rectifier circuits, wherein the rectifier topology comprises a full-wave rectifier circuit electrically connected in series with a current duplicator circuit, the current duplicator circuit comprising two inductors (L5, L6, L9, L10) and two diodes (D17, D18, D24, D25).
