A method of producing a plant with enhanced resistance to adverse conditions, said method comprising introducing a chimeric gene in said plant cell or plant by transformation, wherein said chimeric gene comprises the following DNA regions operably linked: a) a promoter plant expressible; b) a DNA region, which when transcribed gives an RNA molecule, wherein said RNA molecule when being translated into a peptide or protein inhibits PARP NAP or ZAP class or both in cells of said plant, in the wherein said RNA molecule encoding a mutant PARP dominant negative that when expressed in cells of said plant reduces the apparent activity of the PARP protein encoded by an endogenous PARP gene, wherein said mutant PARP dominant negative comprises or consists of a binding domain functional DNA or without a catalytic domain without a functional catalytic domain, wherein said mutant comprises a dominant negative PARP amino acid sequence selected from the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID No. 2 from amino acids 1-370, the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID No. 4 from amino acid 1 to 159 amino acid sequence of SEQ ID No. 6 from amino acid 1 to 138, the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID No. 11 amin oácido 1 to 98, or the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID No. 2 from amino acids 1 to 370, wherein the amino acid sequence of amino acid 1 to 88 is replaced by the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID No. 11 of the amino acid position 1 to amino acid at position 98, or wherein said mutant dominant negative PARP is mutated in the conserved lysine of position 850 of SEQ ID No. 2, position 532 of SEQ ID No. 4 or SEQ ID position 517 No 6; c) a DNA region involved in transcription termination and polyadenylation wherein said adverse condition is selected stress imposed by treatment with salicylic acid.
