The disclosure relates generally to the treatment or prevention of disease incattle. More particularly, the inventionis directed to the production and use of modified bovine herpesvirus 1 (BHV-1)and their use in compositions and vaccines thatprotect cattle from BHV-1 infection while not suppressing the immunologicalresponse in the host. In one example, the inventionis directed to the use of modified BHV-1, administered with additionalimmunogens, either through co-administration and/orthrough administration in combination vaccines, and the use of these vaccinesfor the protection of cattle from disease. In oneexample, use of the modified BHV-1 in the administered compositionsfacilitates an immune response to or against the additionalimmunogens.
