An underwater camera system includes a projector operable to project a patternof electromagneticradiation toward a target object. The electromagnetic radiation includes atleast three differentwavelengths. A sensor directed toward the target object receives reflectedelectromagnetic radiation fromthe target object and stores corresponding image data received from thesensor. One or more processorsprocess the image data to compute a refractive normal according to awavelength dispersion representedby differences in the image data, and to compute an interface distancecorresponding to a distance froma center point of the sensor to a first refractive interface nearest thesensor according to the refractivenormal. The processors generate a 3D representation of the target object byback projecting each pixel ofthe image data at the first, second, and third wavelengths in order todetermine an object point locationaccording to the refractive normal and interface distance.
