This gas-sensitive body is provided with a material to be supported and a metal oxide support. The material to be supported is composed of at least one substance selected from the group consisting of metals, alloys, oxides and composite oxides containing an element in groups 7-11 of the periodic table. The metal oxide support is an oxide of at least one element selected from the group consisting of Y, Ce, Ti, Zr, Nb, Fe, Zn, Al and Si. The gas-sensitive body is formed of an assembly of composite particles, each of which is obtained by having the material to be supported supported by the metal oxide support, and has electrical characteristics that change upon adsorption of a gas to be detected.
