The invention relates to a method and a device for handling stacked part carriers which receive parts within an automation cell. The aim of the invention is to provide a method and an automation cell for carrying out the method for handling stacked part carriers which receive parts within an automation cell, wherein during the transport of the part carriers from the first locking area to the second locking area as well as into the temporary storage and back, it is not necessary for the the part carriers to leave the vertical main axis of the housing and an additional temporary storage at least of the loaded part carriers in the region between the first locking area and the second locking area is not required, and to allow a clear reduction of the required base area for the automation cell. This is achieved by the method in that a) multiple part carriers (6) which are stacked on a platform (5) and which receive parts are positioned over an opening (3) in the automation cell (1) at a first locking area (4) that can be found in the automation cell (1) and is a base-side component of a vertical housing (2) shaft (8) through which a vertical main axis (7) runs.
