The device has a mechanism (24) with a bobbin handling unit (25) that is formed as a bobbin-gripping unit and is movable along axes for receiving, transporting and delivering bobbins (11) within an automation cell. A vertical axis is immovably formed in a Z-direction. The bobbin handling unit is arranged in such a manner that it is vertically movable in Z-direction to slides (30) that are movable along the vertical axis. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) an automation cell for automatic handling of bobbins (2) a method for handling bobbins within an automation cell that is arranged between a bobbin selection device and a loading region for provision of the bobbins.
