The present invention relates to an electrolyte for a sulfur battery. Provided is a sulfur battery with improved initial discharge capacity characteristics. Also, the sulfur battery has a delay in charging and an overvoltage in charging alleviated by using an ether-based solvent as a liquid electrolyte, and comprising a sulfur compound as an additive. The additive is any one selected from the group consisting of a methanesulfonate compound, a sulfonate compound, a dithionite compound, a tetrathionate compound, a thiosulfate compound, and a combination thereof.
