The present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and a method for diagnosing ALS. More particularly, the present invention relates to a composition for preventing or treating ALS, which inhibits expression of MARCH5 genes or activity of MARCH5 protein, increases expression of MFN2 genes or activity of MFN2 protein, or inhibits decomposition of MFN2 protein. The present invention also relates to a method for diagnosing ALS by determining an amount of expression of MARCH5 and MFN2 genes or activity of MARCH5 and MFN proteins. According to the present invention, it is possible to carry out early diagnosis of ALS. In addition, when using the composition for preventing or treating ALS according to the present invention, it is possible to protect the function of mitochondria of motor nerve cells before the conditions of ALS become severe, and thus to prevent and treat damage of motor nerve cells effectively.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2016
