According to the invention there is provided a radar level gauge for determining the filling level of the product contained in the tank, and a transceiver for generating and receiving a frequency range within the electromagnetic signal, and arranged to extend into the product contained in the tank of the product guide the transmission signal from the transceiver towards a surface and for guiding the echo signal caused by reflections from impedance transitions encountered by the said electromagnetic signal transmission, including a surface echo signal resulting from reflection from the surface back to the transceiver wave guiding structure and the frequency range of a plurality of reference impedance substantially provided periodically along the wave guiding structure with a distance between the coupled adjacent to the reference impedance transition selected in order to form a reference signal having a frequency in the teuraenjisyeonwa, determining the propagation velocity of the electromagnetic signals in the medium tank above the surface of the article on the basis of the frequency of the reference signal the distance between the neighboring reference impedance transition, and wherein the filling level based on the surface echo signal and the propagation velocity the radar level gauge system having a processing circuit coupled to the transceiver is provided to determine. ;
