The present invention provides a production method comprising the steps of: producing a compound of chemical formula 2 by esterifying a compound of chemical formula 3 with a compound of chemical formula 4; and synthesizing citalopram by cyclizing the compound of chemical formula 2 under the presence of a base. In the formulas, X is a leaving group, and Y is selected from H, NO_2, CF_3, CN, or Cl.
