Systems, methods, and computer-readable storage media are provided for efficient real-time ink stroke smoothing, locus prediction, and GPU-leveraged rendering of ink stroke inputs. The first and second ink points are received and an approximation to the active bezage is computed based on them. A third ink point is received later in time sequence than the first and second ink points. It is determined whether the third ink point suitably approximates the active bezge appropriately. In the case of a determination that the third ink point fits properly, an approximation to the updated active bezier including the first, second and third ink points is computed. If the third ink point fails to fit properly, a different new bezier approximation is computed that includes the third ink point but does not include the first and second ink points. Utilizing the GPU, smoothed ink strokes based on the Bezier approximation (s) are rendered.
