Disclosed herein is a smart cup. The smart cup comprises: a sensing module sensing information to estimate a residue of a fluid contained in the smart cup; a second sensing module sensing an inclination of the smart cup; a communications module; and a control module controlling operation of the first sensing module, the second sensing module, and the communications module wherein the control module determines whether the smart cup is inclined using an output of the second sensing module, and activates the operation of the first sensing module when it is determined that the smart cup is not in a state of being inclined, and controls the communications module to thereby transmit the output coming from the first sensing module to a terminal.
