The present invention relates to a method of designing an optical material having a three-dimensional nano structure based on a genetic algorithm. According to an embodiment of the present invention, a method of designing a nano structure-based optical material is provided, which includes the steps of: (a) setting a material forming a substance and a three-dimensional nano structure shape to be formed of the material, as a discrete variable; (b) setting a plurality of geometric variables related to the three-dimensional nano structure shape, as a continuous variable; (c) forming a three-dimensional nano structure by using a combination of the discrete variable and the continuous variable, and generating an initial population formed of various three-dimensional nano structures by repeating a formation of the three-dimensional nano structure through the combination of the variables; (d) calculating an optical property of the initial population to evaluate the suitability with the optical property; (e) optimizing the continuous variable on the basis of a derived function; (f) generating a new population by using at least one of a natural selection, a hybridization, and a mutation on the basis of the suitability of the initial population; (g) checking a finishing condition of the optimization through a convergent state of the calculation; and (h) concluding a result of the designing.
