The present invention relates to a grass protection mat, and to a method for constructing a grass protection mat. The grass protection mat comprises: a plurality of body units having grass passing spaces formed therein; and a shrinkage-expansion compensation-type connection means for connecting the plurality of body units to ensure shrinkage-expansion compensation of a unit mat. At least four adjacent unit mats are directly connected through one or more shrinkage-expansion compensation connection means to form one group.
