The present invention relates to a method for producing trehalose and a medium composition for producing trehalose. According to the method for producing trehalose, trehalose can be effectively obtained not by using an enzymatic method but by cultivating Sulfolobus acidocaldarius ATCC 33909 strains. In addition, it is economical by using low-priced glucose, and the weakness of existing enzymatic methods requiring excessive costs and labors can be compensated since a process for extracting trehalose enzyme is unnecessary. According to the present invention, trehalose can be usefully used in cosmetic, food and medical fields.
