A method for assisting a driver of a vehicle combination (2) with a towing vehicle (4) and a trailer (6), wherein a width (BZ) of the vehicle combination (2) is determined, wherein a lane (20.1) is detected, wherein a space (22) claimed by the vehicle combination (2) during the journey is predicted, a setpoint track (TS) for the towing vehicle (4) being calculated such that the vehicle combination (2) remains within the lane (20.1). Described are further a computer program product, a lane departure warning (9) and a towing vehicle (4).
