Apparatus (102) for operating a car-sharing vehicle, the apparatus (102) comprising: a security processor (104) for authenticating a user of the vehicle, the security processor (104) being coupled to a sensor of the vehicle via a first communication interface, wherein the security processor (104) is coupled to a controller (112) of the vehicle via a second communication interface, and wherein the security processor (104) is configured to: receive a user's vehicle key from the sensor via the first communication interface; to authenticate the vehicle key; and send a command to unlock the vehicle via the second communication interface to the control unit (112) of the vehicle; wherein the device (102) is changeable by the user of the vehicle.
