According to the invention, a method is provided for determining the mean radius of gyration rg of particles having a size of ≦ 200 nm in a suspension and an apparatus for carrying out the method according to the invention. The method is based on the scattering of linearly polarized electromagnetic radiation on nanoparticles, which are suspended in a solution and moved through a flow cell. The irradiation takes place perpendicular to the direction of movement, wherein the scattering intensity is measured via at least four detectors which are or are arranged in defined planes in a defined plane. Alternatively, at least one mirror may be used at the position of at least one of the detectors, which deflects the radiation to at least one detector. On the basis of the scattering intensities both the mean radius of gyration rg of the particles and their concentration in the suspension can be determined.
