A radar apparatus includes a transmitting section that emits a radar wave that has been frequency-modulated so that a measuring cycle includes a rising section in which a frequency increases and a falling section in which a frequency decreases, a receiving section, the respective beat signals of the ascending portion and descending portion, and a signal processor that performs a precipitation determination process based on an analysis of the beat signals. In the precipitation determination process, in the absence of objects that are not precipitation objects in a transmission range of the radar wave as a result of the frequency analysis of the beat signals (No in S350), it is determined whether a spectral similarity of the frequency spectrums of the rising and falling portions with precipitation reference spectra is not smaller than is predetermined threshold value, and if, as a result of the determination, the spectral similarity is not smaller than the predetermined threshold value, it is determined that precipitation is present (S360 to S380).
