The present invention relates to a recombinant methanotrophic capable of producing isoprene, and to a process for producing isoprene using this methanotrophic, and more particularly, to a recombinant methanotroph which has the ability to produce isoprene, wherein a gene containing the encodes an isoprene synthase having a homology of at least 70% to the amino acid sequence of ipomoea batatas isoprene synthase into which recombinant methanotrophs are introduced, and to a process for producing isoprene using the recombinant methanotroph. The use of a recombinant methanotroph in accordance with the present invention enables high-yield production of isoprene by using methane gas or methanol obtained from waste such as natural gas, biomass, household waste or the like as a carbon source.
