The invention relates to a cowl reinforcement intended for being secured in an area located near each of the two opposing ends of the cowl (2) and the lower edge (3a) of the windscreen of a motor vehicle in order to improve the ability of the vehicle to absorb the energy of a frontal impact, characterised in that said reinforcement is made up of an elongate part (1) made of metal or a light alloy comprising at the two opposing ends thereof means for securing said part (1) in said area of the vehicle, said part (1) being suitable for absorbing a portion of the energy of a frontal impact, when secured in said area.
