The method involves separating mixture of carbon monoxide, hydrogen, methane and nitrogen, by a separating unit i.e. methane washing column (C1), using a carbon monoxide cycle under cold conditions. The cycle partially ensures condensation at top of a carbon monoxide/methane separating column (C3), reboiling in a chamber of a product stripper (C2), reboiling in a chamber of the separating column and/or cooling of the mixture for the unit. The cycle assures cooling of methane at the washing column, over-cooling of the washing column and/or condensation at top of a denitrification column (C4). An independent claim is also included for a system for separating a mixture comprising carbon monoxide, hydrogen and methane.
