The invention relates to a method for operating a retail scale, comprising a display for displaying weight values, a load plate for weighing items to be weighed, and a camera for operator identification. In order to simplify the operation of the retail scale, during a transaction, a bar code is read by means of the camera and evaluated, and the data thereof is linked to the transaction.
