Key topic detection on online social networks

The method includes accessing a first set of content objects of an online social network posted within a predetermined time frame and identifying a trending topic. Each object may be associated with one or more topics. The method further includes accessing a second set of content objects and identifying a co-occurrence topic associated with the second set. Each object in the second set is associated with at least one trending topic identified. The method also includes accessing a third set of content objects and analyzing the trending and co-occurrence topics to detect key topics. Each object in the third set may be associated with at least one of the identified co-occurrence topic and trending topic. Key topics may be detected based on determining co-occurrence or trending topics associated with a threshold number of content objects.
