PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide Cu2ZnSnS4 nanoparticles applicable to a thin-film photovoltaic device and to provide a simple and scalable production method for synthesizing the same.SOLUTION: There are provided nanoparticles substantially composed of a semiconductor material represented by Cu2ZnSnS4 and a movable organothiol ligand bonded to the surface of the semiconductor material and a method for producing the same which comprises the following steps: a step of mixing a precursor of copper, zinc and tin and an organothiol ligand at a first temperature in a first solvent to form a mixture; a step of heating the mixture at a second temperature to distill the first solvent; a step of heating the mixture at a third temperature for a certain period of time to form CZTS nanoparticles; a step of cooling a reaction mixture; and a step of isolating CZTS nanoparticles.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
