PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carrier for synthesis gas production catalyst that can prevent carbon deposition when producing a synthesis gas by carbon dioxide reforming, and allows the synthesis gas to be produced stably and effectively for a long time.SOLUTION: A carrier for synthesis gas production catalyst is used in producing a synthesis gas containing carbon monoxide and hydrogen from a raw material gas containing methane-containing light hydrocarbon and carbon dioxide. The carrier contains a magnesium oxide particle and calcium oxide on the surface of the magnesium oxide particle, where the content of the calcium oxide is 0.005 mass% to 1.5 mass% in terms of Ca.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
