Timely resource migration to optimize resource placement

A distributed system implements timely resource migration to optimize resource placement. Resources are placed between different resource hosts in a distributed system. An assessment of the current placement may be performed according to placement criteria that improve the placement of resources in the distributed system. Based on the evaluation, an expected migration of resources that exceed the improvement threshold may be identified as a candidate resource to migrate. Migration for candidate resources may be performed in a timely manner. In some embodiments, a priority may be assigned to a candidate resource, and the candidate resource is selected accordingly to perform the migration. [Selection] Figure 1
