PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device for binding capable of efficiently attaching bookmark string to all types of soft cover books, and to provide automatically bound books having a new configuration which has not been produced because of cost by using the device.SOLUTION: A binding device comprises a transporting device transporting a cover, a rotator rotating while holding a bookmark string on its periphery, and a cutting device cutting the bookmark string. The rotator has a shape of gear wheel comprising a plurality of recessed parts along with periphery at a position where the bookmark string may be continuously cut at a length of the bookmark string suitable for a plurality sizes of books. Driving of the rotator is controlled by a stepping motor or servo motor. The cutting device comprises cutting parts and slide part cutting the bookmark string at a position of the recessed parts. The slide part comprises slide grooves with which the cutting parts may slide in an arced-shape preferably along with the rotator and a plurality of fixing means capable of fixing the cutting part at predetermined positions.
