PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method capable of efficiently producing nickel oxide with a low sulfur content by roasting nickel hydroxide using a fluidization roasting furnace in producing nickel oxide by roasting nickel hydroxide.SOLUTION: There is provided a method for producing nickel oxide by roasting nickel hydroxide to produce nickel oxide, where when nickel hydroxide is roasted while supplying gas using a fluidization roasting furnace and nickel oxide obtained by roasting the nickel hydroxide in the fluidization roasting furnace is collected, gas whose flow rate is higher than that of the gas supplied during roasting is supplied from below the fluidization roasting furnace and gas is supplied from the upper side surface above a fluid bed of the fluidization roasting furnace.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
