PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel material excellent in oxidation catalyst activity of water and a production method thereof, an oxidation catalyst of water and an electrode containing the material.SOLUTION: A production method of mesoporous iridium oxide is provided. The production method includes an iridium oxide precursor solution preparation step of preparing an iridium oxide precursor solution by mixing a copolymer represented by the general formula (1), at least one of hexachloroiridate and a salt thereof, and water, and a vaporization step of obtaining mesoporous iridium oxide by evaporating at least a part of the water from the iridium oxide precursor solution. H-(OCHCH)-(OCH(CH)CH)-(OCHCH)-OH...General formula (1), where x represents an integer of 97 to 106, y represents an integer of 65 to 70 and z represents an integer of 97 to 106.
