The present invention addresses the problem of providing a technique for highly efficiently producing Vargula hilgendorfii luciferase with a high purity. Provided are a method for producing Vargula hilgendorfii luciferase using plant cells and a plant cell that has Vargula hilgendorfii luciferase gene transferred thereinto.
