Compositions and methods are provided for the modification of agronomic traits of a target sequence in the genome of a plant or plant cell.The methods and compositions employ a system of RNA guide / endonuclease CAS to provide an effective system to modify or alter the target sites within a genomic region of a plant.The cell or plant seed, in order to provide the desired agronomic trait improvement in a dry, productivity and tolerance to stress.Methods of intersection to select plants using a two component system of RNA guide and endonuclease CAS, are also disclosed.Compositions and methods are presented, also, to edit a sequence of nucleotides in the genome of a cell.
