Standard articles include a substantially transparent substrate having at least one optical property, wherein the substrate additionally has an outer surface and an inner surface, and at least one patterned layer on the outer surface of the substrate, at least one patterned layer visible over the outer surface and having at least one optical property substantially coincident with at least one optical property of the substrate, wherein the visibility of at least one patterned layer is at least partially restricted through the inner surface. Standardized article formation methods are also described.
