The present invention relates to a method of forming a composite sheet which is produced from a first sheet and a second sheet. the first and second sheets are attached to each other at various binding locations between spaced isolated sheets. The method involves mechanically deforming a precursor nonwoven mat to form a first deformed mat therein. the deformations form protrusions extending outwardly from the first surface of the first mat and openings in the other surface of the mat. The method involves feeding the first nonwoven web with deformations thereon on a bonding contact line, wherein at least a portion of the distal ends of the protrusions is attached to a second web to form a composite tipped web.
