The invention relates to the expression of a specific combination of three bacterial chaperones in a eukaryotic cell, which significantly improves its growth properties and its properties that relate to resistance to physicochemical stress, especially when said cell comprises additional genetic modification using at least one non-native gene. A preferred combination of chaperones comprises the groove and groove chaperones of e.g. coli and chaperone rbcx from synechococcus elongatus.
