The present invention relates generally to the production of steviol glycosides. A method for enzymatically delivering a modified steviol glycoside is provided which comprises incubating a steviol glycoside substrate in the presence of sucrose and glucanucrase gtf180 from the lactobacillus reuteri strain 180 or a mutant thereof with the desired transglycosylation activity. Modified steviol glycosides obtained by a method of the invention and their use as a low glycemic sweetener are also provided.
