A surgical instrument is provided which includes a drive shaft assembly, an end actuator and a staple cartridge. the staple cartridge includes a platform, a plurality of staples, a first drive assembly, and a second drive assembly. the clips are positioned within corresponding openings formed through the platform. The first drive assembly is positioned over a center line of the first row. The first driver is asymmetric about the center line of the first row and is configured to drive a first portion of the plurality of clamps. The second drive assembly is also positioned over the centerline of the first row. The second drive assembly is asymmetric about the centerline of the first row and is configured to drive a second portion of the plurality of clamps. the first and second drive assemblies rotate so that the first and second drive assemblies overlap in a direction transverse to the centerline of the first row to form displaced and overlapping rows of staples in the fabric.
