The present invention discloses a novel soft butylphthalide capsule and a process for preparing it. the butylphthalide soft capsule is composed of a capsule wall material and a drug-containing oil, wherein the drug-containing oil is composed essentially of butylphthalide and a vegetable oil as the diluent in a weight ratio of approximately 1 : 0 ~ 10. The capsule wall material is composed of a capsule wall matrix, a plasticizer and water in a weight ratio of 1: 0.2 ~ 0.4: 0.8 ~ 1.3. The butylphthalide soft capsule described in the present invention may mask the strong and special taste of butylphthalide, and overcome the difficulties associated with the oily active ingredient formulated in another oral formulation. At the time of soft capsule disintegration meets the pharmacopoeia requirements of the People's Republic of China.
