ABSTRACT Title EXTENSION OF DIE LIFE BY IN HOT & COLD FORGING There is provided a forging die with coated hardened surface. The coat comprises at least one layer of a nickel based alloy and at least one layers of a cobalt based alloy. The coat is characterized by a thickness ranging from about 1.5 mm to about 5 mm. The coat is further characterized by grain size ranging from 200nm to 400nm. Further, there is also provided a method of coating a die. There is also provided a forging method that employs the coated die that can manufacture at least 10,000 articles without any intermittent die change over time.
