Cold rolled grain oriented steel exhibit a very low core loss and high magnetic flux density which is attributed to high silicon content (3%) and crystallographic texture, named Goss orientation. The present invention employs a hot band preparation method for maximizing Goss orientation in Fe-3.2Si electrical steels. The method consists of two stage hot band rolling; First rolling in the temperature range of 770-800 oC and subsequent rolling at temperature range of 900-950 oC. The hot rolled sheet is cooled in free air to room temperature. The hot band is then annealed at 900-950oC for 5 minutes. Annealed hot band is subjected to cold rolling to 65% of thickness reduction. The cold rolled sheet is then processed for decarburization and primary annealing at 800-850oC for 4-6 minutes in N2and H2 gas mixture. Primary annealed cold rolled sheet is put to final finish secondary annealing process at 1040 oC in controlled atmosphere to produce Goss oriented grains in the microstructure.
