Method for centering a tire component (9), in particular a layer of false belt, with the use of a set of centering (1), where the tire component includes an inlet end, an outlet end and a main portion between the inlet end and the outlet end where the tire component is provided with a first longitudinal edge (91) and a second longitudinal edge (92) extending at least along the main part, wherein the assembly centering includes a first conveyor (2), a second conveyor belt (3) and a drum (4), wherein the method includes the steps of: a) placing the tire component on the first conveyor with its inlet end oriented in a first conveying direction (a) defined by the first conveyor be b) transporting the tire component from the first conveyor to the second conveyor in the first conveying direction (A), c) determining the lateral position, at or near the inlet end (LE) of the tire component, first longitudinal edge with respect to a second conveying direction (B) defined by the second conveyor; d) moving the first conveyor (2) crosswise to the second conveying direction and thereby aligning the first lateral longitudinal edge (91), at least at the inlet end, with respect to the second transport direction along a first reference edge for said first longitudinal edge on the second conveyor; e) transporting the tire component from the first conveyor to the second conveyor in the first conveying direction while determining the lateral position of the second longitudinal edge (92) to the second conveying direction (B), where the tire component has a lateral center between certain lateral positions of the first longitudinal edge and second longitudinal edge; f) transporting the tire component from the second conveyor into the drum in the second conveying direction; g) moving the drum laterally relative to the second conveying direction (B) to align a center of a lateral position intended application of the tire component on the drum with the lateral center of the tire component; h) transporting the tire component from the second conveyor drum for the tire component at the position desired application.
