In a tyre curing press in which a tyre blank 13 is placed on an inflatable bag 22 before upper and lower mould parts 3 and 29 are brought into engagement, the upper and lower edges of the bag are gripped in vertically adjustable clamping rings 19 and 24 secured to lifting mechanisms 21 and 23 respectively mounted in the lower part of the press. In order to ensure the centring, of the blank on the bag, the lower bead of the blank is caused to abut surface 25 of the lower ring which, initially, is raised from the lower mould part 29, a bead ring 17 is then lowered to contact both the upper bead of the, blank and the edge of the upper clamping ring. The bead ring 17 is connected to a vertically driven piston 10 depending from the upper part of the press. Steam is then supplied to the bag, the mould part 3 lowered to abut the ring 19, and the ring 24 lowered to fit within the mould part 29. The mould parts are then brought into engagement and the shaping and vulcanization of the tyre blank effected.
